NIELSA: A VOICE OF HOPE FOR EDUCATION!

THIS MONTH, LET’S SHINE A LIGHT ON NIELSA, A YOUNG GIRL FROM THE PHILIPPINES, SUPPORTED SINCE 2019.

Through her poem, she reminds us that education is a powerful force for profound transformation.

Born into an environment marked by poverty, Nielsa grew up in the heart of Smokey Mountain, a vast landfill in Manila, Philippines. This place, where thousands of families live in precarious conditions, surviving by scavenging waste, symbolizes the immense challenges she has faced. Despite these hardships, Nielsa never stopped nurturing her dreams.

Through her powerful verses, she shares her reality—the daily sacrifices, the unwavering support of her family, and, above all, her thirst for learning.

"Mama always said, ‘My only inheritance to you is education.’"
"Only one answer remains with me until today… ‘TO FINISH MY STUDIES.’"

For Nielsa, education is more than hope: it is a promise, a mission, a true inheritance.

Studying is her way of honoring her mother’s love, giving meaning to all the sacrifices, and building a dignified future for herself and her siblings.

Her dream is simple, yet carries an unshakable strength:
Go to school. Study. Succeed.

A MONTH OF JUNE FILLED WITH SOLIDARITY—THANKS TO YOU!

Our commitment comes to life close to home, with dedicated volunteer teachers, through workshops designed to foster solidarity and an awareness of others.

This June has been full of solidarity initiatives led by children, teachers, and families committed to our cause. Thanks to their energy and support, wonderful projects have come to life to help children around the world.

Here’s a glimpse of these inspiring initiatives:

📅 June 11 — Charity Flea Market, École Anatole France, Issy-les-Moulineaux
After watching the episode about Nasta in Mayotte, the students were deeply moved by her story. They organized a charity flea market, selling their toys, books, and food to support other children worldwide. A beautiful example of commitment and generosity!

📅 June 14 — La Daronnerie Festival, Saint-Ouen La Communale
We participated in this festival dedicated to parenting, hosting a booth to raise awareness about our association and its mission. It was a great opportunity to engage families and strengthen our solidarity network.

📅 Rice Bowl Campaign — École Ste Jeanne d’Arc, Miramas
The CM1 students chose to share a simple bowl of rice instead of their usual lunch at the cafeteria. The goal: to take a concrete action of solidarity and raise awareness of the privilege of having access to meals and education. Congratulations on this wonderful initiative!

📅 Humanitarian Run — Collège Louis Paulhan, Sartrouville
The teenagers from the Louis Paulhan collective took on an impressive challenge: running 10 to 15 km to raise funds and raise awareness about children deprived of education. To mark the event, they even created “On the Way to School” t-shirts. A huge thank you to them for their dedication and determination!

Your support makes all of this possible. Thank you for believing in us and walking alongside us to give every child the chance to go to school and build their future.

Together, let’s accompany them until their dreams come true!

TIOGAGARA: WHERE EDUCATION AND THE LAND NURTURE THE FUTURE

TIOGAGARA: WHERE EDUCATION AND THE LAND NURTURE THE FUTURE

4 YEARS OF STRUGGLE. EXTRAORDINARY RESILIENCE.

When we discovered the situation of the students in Tiogagara, Burkina Faso, it was alarming: a school without roofs, no cafeteria, and no teacher.

In 2019, a teacher from Ouagadougou was assigned to the school. His arrival in Tiogagara is recounted in the film Être Prof, released in 2022.

To provide him with the resources needed for teaching, we restored the school’s infrastructure and created a vegetable garden, which allowed the opening of a school cafeteria.

However, in 2023, faced with increasing insecurity in the country, the residents were forced to flee, abandoning the school and the garden. We supported them during this emergency relocation by setting up a temporary school in a warehouse using the tables and benches from Tiogagara and providing food aid. Despite the challenges, our commitment remained unwavering. We continued to believe in this project.

Today, we are proud to announce that the school and the garden are once again operational.

The residents have returned, and the children are back on their way to school in Tiogagara. More than just a place to grow food, the garden embodies our commitment and the resilience of the entire community. By ensuring regular access to food, it plays a key role in children’s education. By providing a sustainable source of nourishment, the vegetable garden and orchard benefit the entire Tiogagara community 950 residents and encourage families to send their children to school, opening up better opportunities for their future.

Today, they continue. Let’s help them hold on.

COALFIELD CHILDREN CLASSES: INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION, LOCAL HOPE

FORBES MAGAZINE CELEBRATES OUR WORK FOR THE CHILDREN OF INDIA’S MINING COMMUNITIES.

The feature in Forbes Magazine on the occasion of International Women’s Day highlights the success of the Coalfield Children Classes program and underscores the essential role of Pinaki Roy, our association’s emblematic ambassador in India.

This international recognition shines a light on the tangible impact of our work.

In the heart of Jharia, India, where coal mines shape daily life, hundreds of children live under extremely difficult conditions. To give them a chance to access education and a better future, this program was created.

The past few weeks have been particularly rich in projects and emotions. Students of the Coalfield Children Classes have taken part in various cultural, artistic, and educational events. From celebratory dances and school unit anniversaries to mural paintings and the distribution of school bags, the children have had opportunities to showcase their talents and strengthen their self-confidence.

Every gesture counts. Every smile shared is a victory over the daily challenges faced in mining regions.

Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who walks alongside us.

Together, we are building a brighter future for the children of Jharia’s mining communities.

Stay tuned for more stories of success and hope!

NOSSIM SCHOOL IN KENYA OPENS ITS DOORS

We are thrilled to share with you news that is especially close to our hearts.

Convinced that education is the key to a better future, Jackson who as a child used to walk miles across the savannah to attend school has transformed his journey into a true source of inspiration. He became a lawyer. Driven by a desire to give back what he received, he committed himself to providing the children of his village with the opportunity to access quality education. Today, his dream has become a reality: Nossim Elementary School in Kenya has opened its doors!

Thanks to the dedication of our donors, 110 children aged 4 to 8 can now attend school in an environment designed to support their growth and development. The educational complex, staffed by skilled teachers, includes fully equipped classrooms, a school canteen providing daily meals, an educational vegetable garden, and sanitary facilities that ensure optimal hygiene conditions.

The construction of the school marks the first milestone for the On the Way to School Kenya association, chaired by Jackson, and we are deeply proud to have accomplished this project. Our next goal is to ensure the school operates smoothly, so that these children can have a brighter future.
